Managing Risk in Covert Investigations/operations CPD training, 24 June 2025
-
Exclusive to The Investigator!
-
A brand new ‘must attend’ workshop for all investigators that provides essential best practice and key skills around managing risk in covert investigations/operations
-
The fact that investigators now operate in an increasingly complex environment means that it is vital they feel confident and able to conduct the relevant risk management activity for all operations – including covert operations/investigations when scrutiny and accountability of operational decision making have never been greater.
-
Our workshop will consider risk in the overall context of today’s investigations and specifically been designed for The Investigator to allow investigators, operatives and managers to understand, explore and feel confident about the issues of risk, particularly when utilising covert activities in investigations or operations.
-
This is a must-attend for all investigators working in the covert arena and who want to develop and enhance their existing knowledge and skills of the risk management process and it’s role in today’s investigations.
-
Held online via Teams

Certificates of CPD available
AGENDA - BST
9.40am-9.50am: Welcome and introduction, Carol Jenkins, The Investigator
9.50am-10.40am: Session One: This session will put the issue of risk in context. It will examine what is the difference between a hazard and risk and the difference between risk assessment and risk management.
This session will allow attendees to explore how the risk assessment and risk management process can be too subjective how it can be made more objective to withstand scrutiny, and how not undertaking the process robustly can leave those involved in the process vulnerable.
It will examine when a risk assessment should be conducted in a covert investigation, who should undertake it and the reasons for undertaking a rigorous risk assessment.
10.40am-10.50am: Questions
10.50am-11.10pm: Break
11.10pm-Noon Session Two: This session will examine different risk assessment models that can be used when undertaking investigative activity, particularly when utilising covert techniques.
There will be a clear explanation of the areas that should be considered in the risk assessment process in order to demonstrate that a robust and comprehensive risk assessment has been completed in a subjective manner.
The session will then also look at the risk management process and a model that can be used to manage the risks in any given situation, whilst recognising the potential for under or overestimating the risks and the risk management measures.
Noon-12.10pm: Questions
12.10pm-12.40pm: Break
12.40pm-1pm Session Three: This session will be led by the attendees as an opportunity to ask any questions and discuss practical issues or scenarios that they are faced with in the operational arena. This will help delegates receive an objective viewpoint from the speaker and other attendees, concerning risk, risk assessment and risk management and investigative activity.
1pm: Workshop finishes
Our expert trainer
The day will be led by expert trainer and Adrian Ramdat, a former investigator who spent over 26 years working operationally at a local, regional, national and international level in various covert roles and investigative roles.
He now trains and lectures investigators in the UK and across the world in covert investigations and investigative practice.
Adrian had led some of our most popular workshops and he is known for his informative and credible sessions and his ability to translate often complex information into easy-to-understand best practice that can be used in an operational environment.
